Give your upper high school student an in-depth modern history course and examine Europe from the French Revolution through the end of the Cold War. (If you have younger students, this course fits with the Homeschool Connections Grade School Unit Study Program for grades 3-6 so that your whole family can study the same era at the same time.)

How to get the most out of Modern European History with Phillip Campbell:

  • First, read the course details below and purchase the text.

  • Prepare a notebook for notetaking and homework.

  • Students begin the course by clicking on the "Recording" and watching Mr. Campbell's lecture for Class One.

  • Next, students should complete the reading for the week.

  • Click on the Quiz and complete. Record the grade upon completion. (If you have siblings taking this course, the grade will reset when they take the quiz.)

  • If you need review, go back and watch the recording again and/or go over the Power Point.

  • Repeat until all 14 classes are complete.

  • Note: Links to additional resources may be provided for some classes.

  • Once the course is completed to the parent's satisfaction, there is a Certificate of Completion at the end to be filled in for your records. Parents should record the final grade in their records.

Prerequisite: Recommended but not required: Rending of Christendom

Suggested Grade Level: 11th to 12th grade. 9th to 10th grade students with above average reading and comprehension skills can also do well.

Course Description: This class will acquaint students with the people, movements and events that have contributed to the formation of Modern Europe, defined as the period of the French Revolution to the present. Economic, political, military and ideological trends will be examined with an aim of helping students understand the problems of contemporary Europe and those areas once under European control.

Course Materials: All materials provided free by the instructor.

Homework: Homework will consist of textbook readings coupled with primary source readings provided by the instructor with weekly quizzes and occasional essays.

Answer Key: An answer key is not included with this course. Quizzes are self-grading, and written work can be graded by a parent or by the teacher through instructor access.
