How to get the most out of this course: 
  • First, read the course details below.
  • Purchase or borrow the books and begin reading.
  • Lion, Witch, and the Wardrobe should be completed before the first class.
  • Prepare a notebook for taking notes as you read and watch the lectures.
  • Students begin the classes by clicking on the "Recording" and watching the lecture for Class One.
  • Complete the weekly quizzes, which are graded automatically by the computer. Report your grade to your parent.
  • If you need review, go back and watch the recording again.
  • Repeat until all 6 classes are complete.
  • Once the course is done to the parent's satisfaction, complete the Certificate of Completion at the bottom for your records. 
  • Make sure to record your grades (HSC does not provide record keeping services).

Instructor: Joseph Pearce 

Course Description: C. S. Lewis claimed that he "smuggled theology" into his fiction "under cover of romance". Professor Pearce will help students discover the deep Christian theology that Lewis successfully "smuggles" into his work.

Week 4: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader

Week 5: The Silver Chair

Week 6: The Last Battle

Course Materials: The Chronicles of Narnia by C. S. Lewis (any edition will work).

Recommended but not required, Further Up & Further In: Understanding Narnia by Joseph Pearce (click on title for ordering information).

Homework: Students should read The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe before the first class. Homework entails daily reading and weekly quizzes (20 minutes).
