Instructor's Biography: Jean Hoeft has been a math and algebra teacher for 22 years. She has a BA from the University of Michigan and a MA from Marygrove University. Jean has taught the confirmation class at her Catholic parish for 27 years. She loves gardening, sudoku puzzles, raising chickens, reading, knitting, and everything Catholic.

Course Description: This math course will set the stage for your student's middle school math experience.  Students learn all basics skills; addition, subtraction, multiplication and division as well as using these skills with two- three- and larger numbers.  Great emphasis is put on mental math (essential skills!) rounding, as well as estimating.  In geometry they will begin using capacity, measuring lengths of segments, identifying polygons and determining similar and congruent figures.  Probability is also learned with the end of the course beginning fraction work.  

Course Materials: Saxon 5/4 Homeschool Kit, 3rd Edition (includes tests and answer keys). 

Homework: Practice set for appropriate lesson and then the problem set for that lesson.  Please follow the recommended schedule for testing which comes with the homeschooling kit.
