Advanced MS Math: Gamified Level 8 Pre-Algebra, Part One


Finishing Middle School with a strong understanding of the exciting world of mathematics is crucial to success moving forward. This course takes students on Quests to build 8th-grade Pre-Algebra skills in Arithmetic Properties, The Number System, Ratios, Rates, Proportions, Percents, and Exponents, as well as Algebraic Expressions, Equations, & Inequalities. Gamification brings Math to life!
 
Special Notes: This can be utilized as a Pre-Algebra course. As a GAMIFIED course, students learn through a variety of assignments that include games. This is Part One of a two-part course. Students are expected to register for Part Two as well. In addition to class instruction, there will be interactive recorded video lessons.

Suggested Grade Level: 8th or 9th grade (advanced 7th grade OR an older student in need of a solid foundation.)

Course Description: This course provides the path for students to become prepared for High School math in a comprehensive and fun way. Math can be interesting and enjoyable! Weekly Quests include videos, class instruction, colorful textbook assignments, workbook assignments, Quizlet, & games/puzzles. During Part One of this course, students will advance and solidify their Pre-Algebra & 8th-Grade knowledge of mathematics, problem-solving, and vocabulary related to Arithmetic Properties, The Number System, Ratios, Rates, Proportions, Percents, and Exponents, as well as Algebraic Expressions, Equations, & Inequalities. In addition to the daily homework and making use of the tools mentioned above, there will be 7 Quizzes, 5 Section Tests, and a Final Exam. Following this course, your student can continue exploring the exciting world of gamified math with Advanced MS Mathematics: Gamified Level 8, Part Two.

Classes 4-7:  Ratios, Proportions, & Percents
Classes 8-10:  Exponents & Algebraic Expressions
Classes 11-12:  Equations & Inequalities
Class 13: Course Review & Final Exam

Online Resource: Join the Quizlet class for this course and utilize its sets on Quizlet.com (Free student accounts are available.) A link to join the specific Quizlet class for this course will be posted on Moodle.

Homework: Each week, students can follow a detailed day-by-day Quest Schedule. Assignments include instructional videos, games & puzzles, rote practice, textbook reading & exercises, class instruction, workbook exercises, and Math vocabulary on Quizlet. Also, when there isn’t a test or exam, there is a quiz. This makes for 7 Quizzes, 5 Section Tests, and a Final Exam, all graded on Moodle. Students should expect to put in a minimum of one hour a day, five days a week, for the coursework. Parents should note that the answer keys in each book are for the students’ use to check themselves as they practice their daily work.
