How to get the most out of Intermediate Conversational Spanish, Part One with Nanci Lopez:

  • First, read the course materials below before the first class meeting.

  • Then have a notebook ready and available for class notes for each Live session.

  • Review class notes before each Live class.

  • Watch that week’s recording if you need to revisit information from the Live session.

  • Do the assignments and Supplemental Recordings assigned for that week.

  • Once the course is completed to the parent's satisfaction, there is a Certificate of Completion at the end to be filled in for your records.

  • Answer key for the Supplemental Recordings and Worksheets are available upon request.  (For Recorded Courses only.)

Special Notes: Course materials provided free. This course only takes 20 students; therefore, we recommend registering early.
In addition to the 12 live classes, there are 8 supplemental recorded lectures.
This is Part One of a two-part course. Students are expected to register for Part Two in the spring. Due to the popularity of this course, it is offered in two time slots. Choose the day and time that works best for your homeschool.

Course Description: In this course, students will be taught a basic vocabulary with an emphasis on simple verb conjugation and pronunciation. Students will sharpen their speaking and listening skills and further develop their reading and writing skills.  By the end of this course, students will be able to form basic sentences, conjugate verbs in future, past, and present tenses, and have the tools to navigate basic conversations.

  • Session 1 - House Vocabulary and review Conjugation of Verbs in the Present Tense

  • Session 2 - House Vocabulary continued and Conjugation of ser/estar/

  • Session 3 – Position Vocabulary and Conjugation of /tener/ir

  • Session 4 – House / Position City Vocabulary and Conjugation of ser/estar/tener/ir in the Preterit Tense

  • Session 5 - About the City Vocabulary continued and Introduction to Preterit Tense

  • Session 6 – City / Neighborhood Vocabulary and Preterit Tense continued

  • Session 7 – Practice using verbs in the Preterit Tense

  • Session 8 – Analyze a City Map and Introduce Irregular Verbs in the Preterit Tense

  • Session 9 - Listening Comprehension and Conjugation of Irregular Verbs in the Preterit Tense continued

  • Session 10 – Discuss Thanksgiving in Spanish and Conjugation of Irregular Verbs in the Preterit Tense continued

  • Session 11 - Family, Adjectives, Clothing, Color, Home, and City Review and Preterit Tense continued

  • Session 12 – Discuss Christmas in Spanish and Preterit Tense Review 

Course Materials: All course materials provided free by the instructor.  Spanish/English dictionary is recommended, as well as a notebook or binder.

Homework: Students will be expected to spend about 3 to 5 hours studying per week outside of class time. This is not meant to discourage students. Simply put, repetition is key when learning any new language. Audio files will be expected to be turned into the teacher.
