How to Get the Most Out of Saxon 6/5 with Jean Hoeft:

  1. Please have your student read the lesson and have a notebook handy before watching the recording.
  2. Watch the recording, keeping a notebook and pencil, and taking notes when directed.
  3. Do the practice problems with the examples on the video to see how to do the problems.
  4. Do the lesson problem set and check it. The Saxon 6/5 Homeschool Kit includes answer keys for you.
  5. There are four lessons per week. The fifth day is test day. The Saxon 6/5 Kit includes a test booklet with weekly tests and answers.

Course DescriptionBuilding upon the principles taught in Saxon Math 5/4, the Saxon 6/5 textbook covers concepts such as: the order of operations; geometry and measurement; integers; divisibility concepts; ratios; statistics and probability; prime and composite numbers; patterns and sequences; and powers and roots. Students will specifically learn about making a multiplication table, adding/subtracting fractions with a common denominator, multiplying by multiples of 10 and 100, perimeter, simple probability, decimal parts of a meter, reciprocals, volume, square roots, graphing points on a coordinate plane, and more.

Lessons contain a warm-up (with facts practice, mental math, & problem-solving exercises); introduction to the new concept, lesson practice exercises where the new skill is practiced, and mixed practice exercises, which includes 25-30 old and new problems. In-depth "Investigations" are provided every 10 lessons, and have their own set of questions. Math 6/5 also includes 6 in-lesson activities and 5 investigation activities.
