Course description:  The purpose of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens is to help you lead your life in an effective, positive way. Mrs. Gaudino will guide students through the 7 Habits from a uniquely Catholic worldview.  

If you are looking for a toolkit to help develop habits that will serve you for a lifetime, this is the course for you! In these classes we will explore practical ways to set priorities, get along better with parents, teachers, friends and peers, act in accordance with your values (even when everyone else isn’t), be more productive, and achieve balance in all areas of your life. 

We will illustrate the 7 Habits using real-life examples, games, team challenges, and other activities to highlight how each of these habits can impact your everyday life. 

Total class meetings: 6

Duration: 55 minutes per class

Prerequisite: None

Suggested grade level: 9th to 12th grade

Suggested credit: ½ semester Life Skills

Day One: What’s in it for me?  Intro and overview of the 7 Habits

Day Two: Habit 1: Be Proactive and Habit 2: Begin With the End in Mind

Day Three: Habit 3: Put First Things First and The Relationship Bank Account

Day Four: Habit 4 Think Win-Win and Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to be Understood

Day Five: Habit 6: Synergize – The value of working together

Day Six: Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw – The importance of rest, renewal and reflection. 

Course materials: The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens by Sean Covey IBSN: 978-1-4767-6466-5 (https://amzn.to/3EV3oEi) 

Homework: You will have approximately 20 to 30 pages of reading per night from Sean Covey’s book with a short quiz after Days 1 through 5 based on the reading material and class lectures. A one- to two-page reflection paper will be due on the last day of classes. There will be a nightly “challenge” that will help you apply each of the habits. The grade breakdown for this course will be: Quizzes: 60%, In-Class Participation: 20%, Final Paper: 20%
