Course description: This course is a general study of the political history of Australia. It will cover pre-European aboriginal culture and settlements, the arrival of Europeans, the colonization of Australia, the period of colonial self-government, the growth of Australian democracy towards Dominion status, Australia in world affairs, and contemporary issues in Australian society. We will also discuss the role of the Catholic Church in Australian history.
