Using a colorful, engaging text, discover the origins of world cultures -- from prehistory through the Middle Ages -- including China, Russia, Africa, and more.

How to get the most out of All Ye Lands: World History, Part One with Christopher Martin, Ph.D.:

  • Download the pre-course materials (e.g., syllabus) found at the end of the course introduction, but before the weekly materials.
  • Review the week's PowerPoint slides before attending the class meeting.
  • Have a notebook ready and available for class notes during each class meeting.
  • Watch the week's recorded meeting. NOTICE: This class was taught with multiple sections. Student's only need to watch 1 recording per week of study, and they may choose either section's recording.
  • Do the assignments, quizzes, and any extra work assigned for that week.
  • Repeat the above for each week.
  • Once the course is completed to the parent's and professor’s satisfaction, there is a Certificate of Completion at the end to be filled in for your records.

Special Notes: This is Part One of a 2-part course. Students should also sign up for Part Two in the spring as a proper complement to this class.

Note: there have been significant updates since the original 2002 edition of All Ye Lands. Therefore the original edition of the required textbook is not recommended for this course. We recommend the 2011 to 2018 editions. There is no need to purchase the workbook; only the textbook is needed.

Homework:

  • Students will read selections from each unit of Lasseter - approximately 15 pages of reading per week.

  • Writing is an integral part of demonstrating both the assimilation of knowledge and the articulation thereof. Therefore, students will be guided through the process of writing a short (1-2 page, double-spaced) review of a book of their choice relevant to the subject matter. (High school students taking this course will instead write a three- to five-page book report)

  • Weekly extra-credit review quizzes based on classroom lectures and discussions (graded by the computer).

  • No answer key is included with this course, but rubrics will be provided as needed.
