Course Description: The internet is a complex and constantly changing environment that can be hard to navigate and figure out. Together, we will explore how the internet works and discuss the various uses of the internet that you may encounter throughout your lifetime. Each class we'll cover a new area of the internet, from communication tools and social media platforms to research tools. In our final class, we'll have a mini scam school that teaches you how to spot scams, both online and in person, to help protect yourself and your family in the future. We'll also discuss tools for parents to protect their families online and give resources for parents for further learning. This course covers everything a parent needs to feel confident navigating the web on your own and provides valuable information about how to use the internet safely and how to keep your family safe.

  • Class Two - Communicating Online
  • Class Three - The Internet as a Resource
  • Class Four - Social Media + Entertainment
  • Class Five - Online Safety
  • Class Six - Scam School

 

Course Materials: All materials are provided free by the instructor. Quizzes are automatically graded each class by the online Moodle System.

Homework: Each class there are resources for parents to look through to help provide more information on the class's topic. There is no written homework, but there is an optional quiz for each class to help parents test what they learned. It is expected to need about an hour each class to look through the resources and take the quiz outside of class.
