How to get the most out of Christ's Real Presence in the Eucharist  with Gary Michuta:

  • First, read the course details below.
  • Prepare a notebook for note taking and homework.
  • Students begin the course by clicking on the "Recording" and watching the instructor's lecture for Class One.
  • Complete the Week One Activities.
  • If you need review, go back and watch the recording again and/or go over the Powerpoint.
  • Repeat until all classes are complete.
  • Once the course is completed to the parent's satisfaction, there is a Certificate of Completion at the end to be filled in for your records. Homeschool Connections does not provide record keeping.

Prerequisite: Completed one of the Beginning Apologetics courses or equivalent. (available through Unlimited Access)

Suggested Grade Level: 8th to 11th grade

Suggested High School Credit: 2/3 semester Theology. For a full credit, add another theology course or Mr. Michuta's optional reading list.

Course Description: The student will learn the main Protestant issues concerning Christ's Real Presence in the Eucharist, an in-depth study of all the relevant Scripture and patristic texts, as well as an overview other evidence, such as Eucharistic miracles, that lend support for Catholic doctrine.

Course Outline:

Class 1: What we mean by the Eucharist

Class 2: The Eucharist in Protestantism

Class 3: Old Testament Foreshadowing

Class 4: Institution Narratives

Class 5: The "Bread of Life" Discourse in John 6

Class 6: Other New Testament Evidence

Class 7: Eucharistic Miracles and other evidence

Class 8: Answering Common Objections / Mock Dialogue

Course Materials: Course materials supplied for free by the instructor. Students need to make sure they have a functioning headset with a microphone.

Homework: Each class will have a multi-choice quiz. There will also be a final exam to review material from the semester.  Quizzes and exam are automatically graded by the computer so students have immediate feedback. Students will be encouraged to review the material and practice the responses. Parents assign the final grade. Students can expect to spend approximately 2 hours outside of class per week on homework.
