How to get the most out of the Recorded Course "Science and the Faith" with Kevin O’Brien:

PARENTS: As primary educators of your homeschooled children, you will be assessing their work in this recorded course.  This may prove difficult, if you don't know the subject matter.  Parents can grade any essay questions, or they may purchase Instructor Access for Kevin O'Brien to grade the essay questions.

My suggestion is to discuss this course with your child on a regular basis.  Ask him or her what he or she learned in class each session.  Get your child to explain to you what the video was about, what the homework assignment is, and what some of the deeper meanings are of what we're discussing in class.

In addition, when it comes to grading essay answers, even if you (the parent) don't know the material, you can at least assess your child's written work for proper

  • Punctuation
  • Spelling
  • Grammar
  • Sentence Structure
  • Coherence of Argument

Of course, feel free to take this class with your child and learn side by side!

STUDENTS: Here's all you have to do ...

  • Read the material
  • Watch the videos
  • Do the assignments

Feel free to reach out to me if you're confused or have something in particular that excites you or moves you.

Course Description: Doesn't science contradict the claims of religion?  What about evolution? What about the faith most people put in science and how it's the only valid way of examining truth?  In this intense six week course, we will take an introductory look at the relation between Science and the Catholic Faith. We'll also learn some fun facts about the history of science - and how priests and monks have made some of the greatest scientific discoveries in history!  This course is an important primer for young Catholics interested in Science and in how Faith and Reason go together.

Course Outline: We cover Reason and Faith, Cosmology, Galileo, Evolution, Artificial Intelligence and more in this course, with a special guest in our last class session!

Course Materials:

Mr. O'Brien will provide selections from various books to discuss in class.

Homework: Quizzes and Final Exam. This will be a challenging course!  Plan on about two or three hours of homework per week.
