Course description: Anne Shirley is a quirky, red-headed orphan whose head is always in the clouds. Created by the beloved author L.M. Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables is the first in a series of books that follows the unique upbringing of Anne by an old maid (Marilla) and her bachelor brother (Matthew). Come escape the craziness of our modern world and travel back in time to Prince Edward Island. Read about what life was like in the small town of Avonlea during the turn of the 19th century; a time in which life was simpler, full of adventure, and humor! Anne learns many timeless life lessons along the way, keeping readers engaged constantly by her charm and clumsy mistakes. There are so many academic disciplines we can explore as we read through this beloved novel. Students will learn about literary themes and devices, the author's background, life at the turn of the century, as well as discuss the timeless nature of the story.  We may even compare some of the Anne of Green Gables movie adaptations. If you’ve already read this book once, it is worth a second (or third) read! Join us for great in-depth discussions and discover why this novel is one of the most popular ever written for youth!
