- The Greeks provide us with many of the known firsts of Western Civilization: mathematicians, astronomers, poets, philosophers, statesmen, and historians. This course provides a thematic history of the cultures of what is today Greece from earliest times up until the rise of Rome with particular focus on just such intellectual and artistic achievers among these fascinating peoples. The idea of enquiry will be the backbone concept of the course: the Greeks provide examples of how to begin to ask questions about things we all see and do every day that lead directly to many modern sciences and arts. A brief introduction to the Greek alphabet and language will be included.
- Prerequisite: None
Suggested grade level: 7th to 8th
